Weekly Newsletter Jan. 9 '26 - Behind the Scenes of This Week’s Schematic Presentation

Hi there, designer đź‘‹

This week, I wrapped up a schematic design presentation for one of my current full-home renovations — and it went so beautifully.💛

If you’ve ever wondered what happens after onboarding but before design development, this phase is it.
It’s where all the puzzle pieces — your client’s aesthetic, their functional needs, and your creative direction — finally click into place.

Why Schematic Design Matters

Think of the schematic phase as the bridge between discovery and development.
It’s where I translate everything from the client questionnaire into early layouts, mood imagery, and clear visual direction before we start sourcing or specifying.

Here’s what’s typically inside one of my schematic decks:

  • Inspiration imagery to define the client’s aesthetic language

  • Layout and space planning options for better function

  • Room-by-room briefs that guide all design decisions ahead

This week’s presentation reminded me: spending time here saves hours later.
It’s where trust is built and the design vision becomes real.

I’m sharing something special with my designer community this week:

Have You Grabbed Furnish & Flourish Yet?

A quick side note because I’m so excited about this…
I’ve already started getting feedback from fellow designers who are using my Furnish & Flourish eBooks to source for their own projects — and it’s been amazing to hear how much it’s helping streamline their vendor selection process!

I always knew this resource would be a total hit, and seeing it in action just confirms it. 🤍

If you haven’t grabbed your copies yet, now’s the perfect time:

→ Explore Furnish & Flourish eBooks

Wishing you confidence, clarity, and clients who say “you read my mind!”

Weekly Newsletter June 05 '26 - The Freedom I Was Working For
Hi there, designer đź‘‹ As I write this, I'm getting ready to send my final newsletter until end of August. For the fourth summer in a row, I'm stepping away from work, spending time with my family, and taking our annual trip to Europe. And it has me thinking about something I haven't reflected on in a while: The freedom I was working for. Every year when I make this decision, I'm reminded of one ...
Weekly Newsletter May 29 '26 - How to Turn CAD Work Into Profit
Hi there, designer đź‘‹ Last week my contractor called me with a project opportunity on my actual birthday (lol).. The client wasn't looking for full-service interior design. She had already selected most of what she wanted herself. She had Pinterest boards, inspiration images, finishes she liked, and a fairly clear vision for the overall look. What she didn't have was a way to turn those ideas in...
Weekly Newsletter May 22 '26 - Today I Turn 38
Hi there, designer 👋 Today is my birthday. I turn 38…wow. For most of my life, I actually disliked birthdays. To me, they always felt like another reminder of another year gone by. Another year of goals I either reached… or didn’t. Another year of asking myself if I had done enough, achieved enough, become enough. My entire life was built around achievement. Chasing the next big thing. Constant...
