Weekly Newsletter Jan. 9 '26 - Behind the Scenes of This Week’s Schematic Presentation

Hi there, designer đź‘‹

This week, I wrapped up a schematic design presentation for one of my current full-home renovations — and it went so beautifully.💛

If you’ve ever wondered what happens after onboarding but before design development, this phase is it.
It’s where all the puzzle pieces — your client’s aesthetic, their functional needs, and your creative direction — finally click into place.

Why Schematic Design Matters

Think of the schematic phase as the bridge between discovery and development.
It’s where I translate everything from the client questionnaire into early layouts, mood imagery, and clear visual direction before we start sourcing or specifying.

Here’s what’s typically inside one of my schematic decks:

  • Inspiration imagery to define the client’s aesthetic language

  • Layout and space planning options for better function

  • Room-by-room briefs that guide all design decisions ahead

This week’s presentation reminded me: spending time here saves hours later.
It’s where trust is built and the design vision becomes real.

Have You Grabbed Furnish & Flourish Yet?

A quick side note because I’m so excited about this…
I’ve already started getting feedback from fellow designers who are using my Furnish & Flourish eBooks to source for their own projects — and it’s been amazing to hear how much it’s helping streamline their vendor selection process!

I always knew this resource would be a total hit, and seeing it in action just confirms it. 🤍

If you haven’t grabbed your copies yet, now’s the perfect time:

Wishing you confidence, clarity, and clients who say “you read my mind!”

Weekly Newsletter May 08 '26 - 5 Mistakes I Made Early In My Design Career
Hi there, designer 👋 It’s been a very full season behind the scenes lately. (May is basically a second December lol) Besides running the studio, I recently picked up another renovation project - a smaller home renovation focused on a kitchen, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Honestly, it’s been the perfect balance alongside our much larger home project that will likely take over a year to complete. ...

Decisions were dragging out.Questions kept coming in.Everything felt slower than it should. And to make matters worse, the project had already gone well beyond the fee she originally charged...She felt frustrated. Because from her side, she was workin...
Weekly Newsletter Apr. 17 '26 - The Worst Advice I Received Early In My Design Career
Hi there, designer 👋 This month in my studio I’ve been deep in the procurement phase on my 6k sq. ft. home renovation - sourcing furniture, lighting, and coordinating orders. And it reminded me of something I wish someone had explained clearly to me much earlier in my career. I once received advice from someone positioning themselves as a “coach” in the design industry. They told me: “You shoul...
